The Crimean Tatar Community of Canada is located in the metropolitan city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was founded by Qirim Tatars who immigrated to Canada from Romania and Crimea during the communist oppression. In 1987, a significant number of Qirim Tatars emigrated from Romania and settled in various cities across Canada. The population of Tatar immigrants began to grow significantly during the early 1990’s, after the collapse of communism in Romania and the former USSR. Today, Qirim Tatars have a strong and prosperous community in Toronto, but can also be found residing in other cities nationwide including Hamilton, Mississauga, Vancouver, and Montreal.
